Networking is an incredibly powerful tool within business and is especially the case within real estate. It opens the door to meeting and learning from successful people in your desired career and doesn’t even have to be something crazy. In this post, I am going to share my own story about networking and how the simple action can be a life-changing experience in your own life.

I was listening to a podcast a while back where the guest shared his personal story. He was once listening to the very same podcast and decided that after each episode he would reach out to the guest. I believe he did it on Instagram or Twitter and he shared something he took away from the episode and thanked the guest for his message. Through this simple networking technique, he made his way into a top-tier mastermind group that he really didn’t belong in and networked with very successful people. From there he learned from these people, grew his own portfolio from their strategies, and is now incredibly successful. All of this came from the simple actions he took after listening to a podcast.

This story piqued my interest. I was already listening to multiple different real estate podcasts and I had been doing so for years now. I decided to follow that guest’s lead and do the same thing that he did. After each podcast I listened to I would reach out to the guest. One thing I did differently was that I decided to reach out and connect on LinkedIn. I felt that this would come from a more professional setting and would also give me a chance to actually get a response. I feel that Instagram is flooded with so many people that a lot of personal messages can just get lost in the clutter. I felt that LinkedIn is a little undervalued and would get me a better chance for some replies.

I decided to craft a message that I would send out to each guest. It took me some time to come up with a message because LinkedIn limits you to a very short message when connecting. I decided to say something that I enjoyed about their podcast and asked if they had any advice for a college student. The reason I asked this question was twofold. One is that it gets their attention and gets the conversation going and the second is about getting advice from successful people. How great would it be if you could get tons of advice from millionaires who are doing what you eventually want to be doing? I thought this would be a great idea and began connecting.

I’ve been sending out these messages for about two weeks and have had some great results. I’ve connected with 18 people and have gotten advice from 5 so far. The advice has been phenomenal and has opened my eyes to things that I need to start doing. I truly believe this technique is going to be a game changer and I encourage anyone reading this to start doing the same thing. It only takes a couple of minutes but has the power to change your life. By working hard and networking with others, success will be just around the corner.
