This year was a great year. There were a lot of ups and downs and a lot of things happened that were simply out of my control. In this post, I’d like to go through my goals from my “Setting Goals for 2023” post and talk about how everything went.

First, we are going to talk about running goals. The goals were:

  • Sub 24:00 8k

  • Win XC conference as a team

  • Top 10 XC conference as an individual

  • Win a college race

  • Stay healthy with no major injuries

These were some tough goals but coming out of a strong summer training block, I felt certain that these were all within reach. I almost achieved my 4th goal when I got second place 1 second behind my teammate in our season opener. We ran the whole race together and I just got beat at the line. I was still really happy with this and knew other opportunities were ahead. Our next race went extremely well at Terre Haute. It was packed with top tier talent and was the premier meet of the Midwest for that weekend. I ended up getting 9th place as an individual running 24:27. This was a challenging course and would have definitely converted to a sub 24:00 at an easier course. Our team got 4th behind Purdue, Belmont, and IU and we beat the Power 5 program of Kansas State. Things were looking up until a couple of days after the meet. My left hip was causing me some pretty bad pain. After months of treatments, we finally got an MRI which revealed another stress fracture. This would be the end of my season and the end of the hunt for my goals. I was very disappointed with this but it also opens the door to new possibilities with a 5th year of full eligibility.

Next I want to talk about real estate. My goals were:

  • Purchase investment property in Lousiville

  • Convert office to duplex

  • Rent out office as MTR

  • Find real estate mentor

  • Attend real estate meet up

  • View a property that is currently being renovated

I was pretty successful in this section. I attended a real estate meetup and I viewed multiple properties that were currently being renovated. I don’t have a mentor per say but through my internship, I was able to work closely and build strong connections with two highly successful agents who both invest. The office is nearly finished for being set up as a MTR and will be rented in January. The duplex goal is about 60% finished as the upstairs is ready to go but the downstairs unit needs some work still. We have the materials for the kitchen but still need to finish it and complete the bathroom. This will be completed within Q1 of 2024. I did not purchase an investment property in Louisville this year. A family emergency popped up and my dad who is my business partner was unable to view properties for the summer months when we needed to purchase. I ended up renting a place with my teammates for the school year and am unsure if purchasing makes sense in the long term since I will be leaving the city after the 2024-2025 school year.

The final set of goals dealt with finances. The goals were:

  • Save $5000

  • Continue to build credit

I did not quite hit the $5000 goal like I’d hoped. My summer internship ended up being unpaid which was a hit to the financial side of things but was still very beneficial. It opened tons of doors and even to a job with them as a deal analyst and a lead coordinator. This job is part time and I get paid off of calls booked and deals analyzed. I would call this more of a side hustle because it doesn’t take more than 10 hours per week to do. Up to this point in December, I have been able to make $1,625.90 through side hustles. I am happy with this considering this was all done through side jobs. My goal of building credit has gone great. I have built up to a 745 credit score!

I learned a lot during this year and reflecting back now, I recognize that I really need to rely more on God and His plan for me. Injuries pop up and life happens. God has a plan for my life and I am going to lean into that knowledge. I am really thankful for everything that has happened this year and I know that 2024 is going to be a big one. Look out soon for a 2024 Goals post!
