April Update

I’d say that this was a pretty successful month. April had some new firsts and I am glad that I can say I have had these experiences. In this post, I’d like to go over what happened this month and what the plan is moving forward.

One of the main things that happened this month was touring my first home. I wrote a whole blog post about it called “Touring My First House Hack” that you should definitely check out. To briefly cover it here, the home was a duplex that needed a lot of work. Unfortunately, with a higher purchase price due to the location of the home, the property quickly grew out of my price range with the amount of work it needed.

Walking through this home was a great experience but it also opened my eyes to a brutal truth that I am going to have to deal with at some point. The majority of the homes around my college are very expensive. It is a nice place to live and it has caused sellers to continuously raise the prices of homes in the area. I had always figured that what would probably end up happening to me was that I would still find a home to buy in the area, but that it would just be one that needed a lot of work. Unfortunately, after viewing this home, I now understand that even homes that need a lot of work will still be expensive.

This is not going to stop me in my tracks. First off, I plan on continuing to search in this small area and will hopefully find a home that works. Secondly, I will also extend my search a little further away from my college as the home prices reduce drastically when doing this. I have full faith that I will find a home that works for what I am trying to do. That being said, it is just going to take some more work.

This month I also had a really great phone call with some investors back in my hometown of Indianapolis. I am taking a summer internship class through my school and figured why not reach out to some investors back home and get some excellent experience in something I am actually interested in. I first found this individual on Biggerpockets and then found his Instagram. I reached out and we set up a call.

The call went super well! He ended up adding his business partner and they both were really cool. Honestly, they weren’t much older than I am and this is really inspirational to me. They both were super interested in bringing me on as an intern and wanted to meet for coffee when I got back home. I am really excited about this possibility as not only will I get some really great experience but I will also be able to help these guys with their goals all while working on my own. I cannot wait to finish school and get back home for the summer!
