The Power of Conversation

Recently, I have decided that the most important next step in my real estate journey is to network. Within the past couple of weeks, I have begun networking with real estate investors in my local market. These conversations have been incredibly beneficial and I’d like to share my experience and how you can do the same.
On many different podcasts, you’ll hear stories about people networking. Back when Brandon Turner was the host of the BiggerPockets Podcast, I remember him constantly talking about networking. He would say that real estate investors are easy to talk to and love to tell their story. I am not always the most outgoing person, so I didn’t ever give networking much of a try. In my first year of college, I did happen to meet an investor one day while in the school’s cafeteria but did not do much with it after the meeting. I know that networking is key to success in this business so now I am going all in on this.
Within the past couple of weeks, I have had the chance to speak with three local investors in my market. I spoke with each person for over an hour and was very thankful of the time each person spent with me. Brandon Turner was right, these guys all were more than happy to share their story with me. Through these conversations, I was able to actually hear from real life real estate investors who are working in my own town. I am able to hear from investors on a daily basis from podcasts, but it was a different feeling to actually meet someone in person.
These conversations were very impactful as I was able to surround myself with like-minded individuals who are living out the life that I am actively pursuing. Not only was I able to hear some cool investing stories, but I also got some great advice specific to my market.
One of these investors was even kind enough to give me a list of his real estate team. This team consisted of lenders, contractors, an insurance agent, title companies, and his CPA! All of this was from one conversation! This man was incredibly generous and I know I will continue working with him in the future.
Another investor, who I did not realize how successful he was before contacting, also told me his story and gave me some great advice. This man even told me about some of his friends/business partners with who I might be interested in working for. Not only did he give me the name of the person but he went ahead and gave that person my email. She reached out to me and now I have a call lined up with her later next week!
Networking has proven to be more beneficial than I would have imagined and I want to share with you how I was able to find these people. I found all of these investors by going on BiggerPockets and searching for investors in my specific market. Then I either messaged them on BP or went ahead and followed them on Instagram and sent them a DM.

I now know how important networking is and will continue to do more of it in the future. I encourage anyone reading this to step out of their comfort zone and meet with a local investor in their market.
